1. Short Title

This legislation is officially called the Privacy Act.

2. Purpose

The goal of the Privacy Act is to strengthen Canadian privacy laws by:

3. Definitions

  • Administrative purpose: Using personal information in decisions that directly affect a person.

    • Physical characteristics (e.g., address)
    • Opinions or correspondence that reveal personal details

6. Retention, Accuracy, and Disposal

  1. Personal information used for decision-making must be kept for a period to allow individuals to access it.
  2. The information must be kept accurate and complete.
  3. When no longer needed, the information should be disposed of according to regulations.

7. Use of Personal Information

Personal information can only be used:
